Your website is slow on phones
Your website takes a long time to load on a phone, and visitors may give up before it appears.
Applies to: Any website, especially those made with a website builder.
Try these steps
Measure it first
Run your home page through Google’s free PageSpeed Insights. Look at the Mobile results and the list of suggestions.
Shrink large images
Large photos are the most common cause. Replace any image that’s much bigger than it appears on screen. Around 2,000 pixels wide is plenty, even for full-width images.
Remove what you don’t use
Turn off old pop-ups, chat widgets, video backgrounds and add-ons or plugins you no longer need.
Measure again
Run the same test on the same page and compare the results.
Check it worked
The mobile result improves, and the page feels quicker on your own phone using mobile data, not Wi-Fi.
When to stop and ask for help
- The suggestions mention code, server response time, caching or hosting.
- A change breaks the page layout. Undo it first.
- Your website builder doesn’t let you make the change.
